Escape to Paradise: Jays Inn Munnar - Your Unforgettable Kerala Getaway
Okay, buckle up buttercups, because we're diving headfirst into a review of [Hotel Name], and let me tell you, it's gonna be a bumpy, glorious ride. Forget the perfectly manicured travel blog – this is the REAL deal. Think slightly unhinged travel companion spilling their guts (and maybe some room service noodles) after a long stay.
First Impressions: Accessibility, And Is My Bag Going to Fall Down the Fing Stairs?*
Right, so accessibility. HUGE. My mobility issues are… well, let's just say I’m not graceful on uneven ground. The website promised a commitment, but promises are a dime a dozen. Getting to the hotel wasn't bad, thankfully they have the airport transfer service which was nice. The front desk was 24/7 which is essential these days. The Elevator was a lifesaver. Praise be to the facilities for disabled guests, because trust me, I scrutinize this hard. But then I hit the stairs to… well, everywhere else and that's a bit of a problem. The exterior corridor, made me a bit uneasy as it feels like something is always trying to spy on me, or I’m just terrified of getting lost. But the doorman helped getting the bags, so that was a godsend. Overall, it has its pros and cons.
The Room: My Personal Fortress (Or, Where Did I Leave My Slippers?)
Okay, let’s talk room. They have the non-smoking rooms and I was so grateful. The Air conditioning was a must, because I melt like a popsicle in the heat. The Blackout curtains? Bless them. Deep, uninterrupted sleep is a luxury, and I needed it. Also, they provided complimentary tea, I'm the type that always need it. Also, complimentary water bottles are lifesavers to keep you hydrated. You never really notice how much you need stuff until it is gone. The wake-up service was reliable, though I still somehow managed to sleep through the alarm. I’m always late.
Now, for the messy parts: My slippers vanished. Poof. Gone. I suspect a rogue cleaning lady with a penchant for… accessorizing. The Internet access – wireless was a dream. Free Wi-Fi – oh yes! Though, I think my laptop workspace was a bit smaller than advertised, I work a bit of a mess. The In-room safe box – used it to hide my snacks, which is far more important than it probably should be.
Food, Glorious Food (and Is That a Fly?)
Right, the dining situation. This is where things get… interesting. They have a lot of options. Restaurants, bars, and what seems like a lifetime menu to choose from. Breakfast [buffet] was an ordeal. The Asian breakfast was worth the struggle. Western breakfast was… well, whatever. The Coffee/tea in restaurant was passable, but the desserts in restaurant were seriously tempting. They have room service [24-hour], but I swear I think the salad in restaurant was a bit rough. Everything else was good. I always ordered a Bottle of water and Extra condiments to go.
Things to Do (Besides Panic About Leaving My Room Messy)
Okay, Things to do. This hotel really aims to be something for everyone. Swimming pool was great and they have a pool with a view. The Sauna and steamroom were my happy places after a long day. You can always go to the Spa, and if you want a massage, they happily do massage. Unfortunately I don’t know if they had a Spa/sauna at the hotel, but it's a shame. If you're the active type, there's a Fitness center, which is a plus. I found the bar to be a good place to relax and grab a few drinks. But if you want to be extra fit, they have a Gym/fitness.
Cleanliness and Safety: Did They REALLY Sanitize My Room?!
This is what gives me the most anxiety; Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, and Rooms sanitized between stays all sound fantastic but you never know what actually happens. I feel safer already knowing the kitchen and tableware are Sanitized .They had Hand sanitizer available which is good. I'm sure if emergencies come, Doctor/nurse on call, First aid kit, and Fire extinguisher were helpful.
Services and Conveniences: Are We Talking Heaven?
They have a Concierge (bless them), Cash withdrawal, Currency exchange, Daily housekeeping, Doorman, Elevator, Facilities for disabled guests, Ironing service, but you know what my favorite service was, I always need, Laundry service. I always order the Food delivery.
For the Kids:
I had no kids at the time, but it's nice to know they are family-friendly, and have both Babysitting service and Kids meal. The Bottom Line:
Look, [Hotel Name] has its quirks. It’s not flawless. But it’s a solid choice, especially if you prioritize convenience, and a good night's sleep.
My Emotional Score:
- Accessibility: 3.5/5 – Needs improvement on navigating, but overall good effort.
- Room Comfort: 4/5 – Cozy, well-equipped, and blackout curtains are a lifesaver.
- Food: 3.5/5 – Buffet chaos, but decent options.
- Amenities: 4.5/5 – Spa, pool, fitness center – they’ve thought of everything.
- Cleanliness & Safety: 4/5 – Appears clean and safe, which is a huge win for me.
- Overall Experience: 4/5 – Would I go back? Probably. (And this is, like, my job).

Madeira's Hidden Gem: Florasol Residence Hotel (Dorisol Hotels) - Unforgettable Stay!
Alright, buckle up buttercups, because this isn't your Instagram-filtered travel vlog. This is the real Munnar, courtesy of yours truly, from inside Jays Inn. Let's see… oh, God, right, the itinerary thing. Here we go… (Deep breath)
Munnar Mishap: A Jay's Inn Jamboree (Maybe)
Day 1: Arrival & Attempting Chic-ness
- 10:00 AM: Thiruvananthapuram Airport to Munnar – The Odyssey Begins. Okay, first, the flight. It was delayed. Naturally. Which meant I was already feeling like a crumpled napkin of a human by the time I even saw Kerala. The taxi driver, bless his heart, drove like he was auditioning for Fast and Furious, but in a Mahindra. Landslides, narrow roads… I spent half the time clutching my rosary, the other half taking in the views. Green. So. Much. Green. Beautiful green. And the tea plantations… stunning.
- 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Jay's Inn Check-in. After the rollercoaster ride, finally, JAYS INN! The pictures online were… optimistic. Real life? Cozy. Cleanish. And the view? Oh, the view! Mountain majesty. Though, it was a bit of a climb to the room. The stairs were NOT designed for someone with a suitcase and a lingering fear of altitude. I think I died a little getting to the top.
- 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Lunch & "Gettign My Bearings". Okay so in my hurry to get here I forgot to pack anything other than a travel book and maybe 2 shirts. I found a little restaurant about a 15 minute walk down the road. The guy didn't speak that much english but the food was delicious!. It was the most amazing meal i've ever had. I ordered a chicken curry and some rice. I think it was like 5 bucks. It made you appreciate life a little bit. Coming from america, you can't get a meal like that for that price. It was so good, that i got a second plate.
- 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: The Grand Plan…or Not. I had ambitious plans. Tea plantations, waterfalls, the works. But after a truly epic lunch, I'm feeling the food coma settle in. Okay, maybe just a nap. Screw the itinerary. I'll just… let the mountain air do its thing. See you in a few!
Day 2: Tea, Trepidation, & Tea-Related Trauma
- 8:00 AM: Wakey Wakey, Eggs & Tea. The breakfast at the Inn? Basic but the tea was surprisingly delicious. I ate a big plate and then sat on the porch for an hour watching the sunrise and the birds. Amazing.
- 9:00 AM - 12:00 AM: The Tea Museum & The "OMG I Think I'm Lost" Moment. The Tea Museum. Fascinating! Learning about the history of tea was actually, genuinely… interesting. I even bought a tea-tasting class (because how could I not?). But then, I decided to be adventurous. I wandered off the beaten path into the tea plantations themselves. Big mistake, huge. The paths vanished, the hills got steeper, and my sense of direction went AWOL. I swear, I wandered for an hour questioning my life choices. Finally stumbled across a kindly tea picker who, after chuckling at my disheveled state, pointed me back towards civilization.
- 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Lunch and Recovering From Trauma. Back at the Inn, I ate a huge plate of rice and chicken curry. The experience of getting lost in the trees made me appreciate what I had.
- 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Mattupetty Dam & "The Photo That Didn't Happen." Matuppetty Dam. Pretttyy… but maybe "pretty" wasn't the word? I kept trying to take pictures of the boats, but they'd move. I tried getting the mountain ranges in the sky, but my camera would mess up the angle. I think I gave up after like 30 minutes.
- 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Dinner. Contemplating My Life Choices. Dinner at the Inn. The menu? Limited. The company? Myself. I ordered the chicken curry again (comfort food, don't judge). I kind of felt like I was in mourning or something. It was peaceful. That's the word.
- 7:00 PM: Back to the Room. Just me and my journals. The view! Ohhhh man.
Day 3: More Mountains, More Memories, and, Sigh, Departure.
- 8:00 AM: Breakfast of Champions (Again!). Breakfast at the inn was so worth it. The staff was super nice. I asked them if they had any advice on what to do today, and they gave me some ideas.
- 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Hiking & The Waterfall That Won't Be Named. The plan was to hike to some waterfall… but there was a new and extremely scenic mountain trail leading to it. I was told the trail would be scenic but it was actually punishing. At one point I almost slipped, and I am not sure what I would have done! But the hike… spectacular. The waterfall… breathtaking. I spent like, forever, by it, wondering what happens next. I swear, I think the waterfall was the highlight of my trip.
- 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Lunch at a Roadside Stall. Back on the road. Ate some potato curry and rice. The people smiled, and I smiled. I wasn't supposed to eat the food, according to my book. But I just had to. This was the most memorable part of my travels.
- 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Rest and Relaxation. Had some time on the balcony, reading my book. Amazing.
- 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Packing and saying goodbye to the view. The view felt like it was saying goodbye to me. This was really sad, I felt like I was losing a family member.
- 6:00 PM - The End: Departure from Munnar. The taxi came. The driver was more chill than the first one, thankfully.
Overall Assessment of Jays Inn:
Okay, so Jays Inn: not perfect, but damn near close. The staff were lovely, the view was insane, and the general vibe was… mellow. It’s not a luxury resort, but it’s got heart, and after my somewhat challenging explorations, it felt like coming home. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Just… maybe pack some extra socks (the humidity's a beast) and, you know, a compass. And maybe, just maybe, bring a friend… or at the bare minimum, a good book!
Indonesian Modesty: Rezka Roomz Syari'ah Ende's Hidden Gem!
1. What's the point of all *this*? You know… existence?
Ugh, *that* question. Look, if I knew the answer, I'd be selling it on a beach somewhere, sipping something fruity with a tiny umbrella. Honestly? I think it's a giant cosmic joke, beautifully and frustratingly complex. Some days I'm convinced the point is to eat pizza, laugh until your sides hurt, and maybe, *maybe* make someone else smile too. Other days I'm curled up in a ball, questioning everything, because... well, life. It's a rollercoaster fueled by existential dread and a whole lot of caffeine.
2. How do you deal with bad days? Like, *really* bad days?
Oh, honey. Let me tell you about bad days. I've had days where I tripped over air and then spilled coffee all over myself *before* 9 AM. Seriously, the struggle is real. My go-to? Chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate. Then, ideally, I retreat to my bed with a blanket and binge-watch something ridiculously mindless. (Think reality TV. Don't judge.) Honestly, sometimes the only cure for a rotten day is letting yourself wallow for a bit. Then, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and maybe, just maybe, try to find something, *anything*, to laugh about. Remember that time I accidentally set the microwave on fire trying to make popcorn? Yeah, good comedic gold, even now!
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
Okay, this is a tricky one. I've heard a *lot* of advice in my time. From "Don't eat yellow snow" (sound advice, to be fair) to "Follow your dreams!" which, let's be real, is easier said than done when rent is due. But, I think the one that sticks with me, the one I actually *try* to live by (emphasis on *try*), is: "Be kind to yourself." It sounds cheesy, I know. But the truth is, we're all just stumbling through this mess called life, trying to figure things out. And being kind to yourself? Gives you the strength to trip over air and laugh about it later. It took me years to realize this. Years! I was my own worst critic. Ugh.
4. What are your biggest regrets?
Regrets… Ah, yes. A whole banquet of them. I regret that ill-advised haircut I got in college. Seriously. I also regret not telling my crush in high school how I felt. Could have been a glorious disaster, or a perfect romance! Then I would regret not embracing failure! Regret is a part of life and as long as you can learn from it then it's worth it! The big one? Probably not taking enough chances. The fear of failure often held me back. But, you know what? Every single mess-up, every awkward moment, every wrong turn? They're all part of the story. They make me… me. And, honestly, I'm starting to embrace the glorious train wreck that is my life. (Mostly. Sometimes.)
5. What's something you're secretly proud of?
Okay, this is a question that I love. Secretly Proud! It's easy to get caught up in the things we don't like about ourselves. I am secretly proud of my ability to order a pizza blindfolded, and also my resilience.. And also that I made it this far without falling apart. It's not much, but I have. And that's something to celebrate, right? It's taking all the bad days and coming out on top. It's a small win, but it's mine. And also? MY ability to make the perfect cup of coffee. It's a gift, truly.
6. What do you do when you feel overwhelmed?
Overwhelmed? Oh, honey, I *know* overwhelmed. When it hits, it hits hard. First, I usually start sweating (don't judge, it's a thing). Then, my brain starts buzzing like a trapped bee. Okay fine, it's a swarm. The fix? Deep breaths. Really, really deep breaths. Then, I try to break down whatever's stressing me out into tiny, manageable pieces. Like, instead of "Conquer The World," it becomes "Drink water. Send one email. Maybe eat a sandwich." And if all else fails? Chocolate. That's a constant.
7. Ever feel lonely?
Listen, being human is a lonely business sometimes. Of course I feel lonely! It's the worst feeling ever. You're surrounded by people, maybe, and you feel like you're the only person inside your own head. I've felt lonely on crowded trains, at parties with friends, even sitting in my own apartment with a cat. The cure isn't always easy. Sometimes it means reaching out to someone, even if it’s just a text. Sometimes it's finding something to be passionate about, something that makes you feel connected to something larger. Sometimes it's just acknowledging the feeling and knowing it will pass. It always does, eventually.
8. What's something you're passionate about?
Oh, that's easy! I'm passionate about… learning new things. I love diving headfirst into new stuff. The joy when you finally start to get something! It’s a high. I'm working on it. And also? The perfect cup of tea. It's a pursuit, not just a beverage. A cup of tea can solve almost anything... and I mean *almost*. And, if i'm being honest, I'm pretty passionate about making life feel less overwhelming. I am passionated about trying. That's a start right?
9. What's the biggest mistake you keep making?
Oof. This is embarrassing. I'm a sucker for self-sabotage. And the most frequent iteration of said sabotage is falling into the trap of comparing myself to others. Social media. Real life. Doesn't matter. It's a constant battle. I know logically that everyone’s journey is different, that success and happiness look wildly diverse, but my brain is still a master of the comparison game. I'm trying to get better, really I am! But, hey, at least I'm aware of it, right? Small victories.
